Biography
Dr. Jaš Otrin graduated as a musician (general direction) in his home city of Maribor (Slovenia) and as a ballet dancer at the Hochschule für Musik (Ballett Akademie-München). His artistic career began with the Bavarian State Ballet and led him via Amsterdam and Hanover to the ballet of the Berlin State Opera – Unter den Linden as well as to many other theatres as a principal guest artist. During this time he performed almost all the leading roles in works of classical dance as well as in creations of contemporary dance. After his active time as a ballet dancer, he first acted as artistic director of the Ballet of the Slovenian National Theatre before founding the agency OtrinArtManagement GmbH, which looks after both individual artists (Edward Clug, Pascal Sévajols and others) and institutional clients (Opera di Roma, Ballett im Revier, Theater Bern and others). Since 2016, he has also been the managing director of the German Professional Association for Dance Education (DBfT). His academic path began with the compact study programme Management at the Lahr University of Applied Sciences and continued at the LMU Munich, where he completed the further education programme Music and Theatre Management as well as the Master’s programme Theatre Studies. He also completed the MBA in General Management at Allensbach University. In 2019, he completed his doctorate at the LMU Munich (TWM) with the dissertation topic “Human Resources Development in Theatre”. Jaš Otrin has been involved in voluntary work as a member of the advisory board of the Prešeren Foundation and as chairman of the board of the Förderverein Tanzkunst Deutschland e. V., which was responsible for the awarding of the German Dance Prize and for the production of the Gala Event until 2018. Jaš Otrin has been on the advisory board of the Künstlersozialkasse since 2021.
