1. Dance related diagnose ABC
In my first webinar, we are going to clarify what is the difference between injury and disease, what is a health condition and what are the most important things you should know about these terms in dance. Let’s break down some of the most typical diagnostic categories of dance medicine! I would like to give you a secure compass for dance medicine to never be lost in the maze of the dance related health problems.
2. Self-alignment analysis to optimize cross-training, dance training and injury prevention
My second webinar is about a super important question of injury prevention, rehabilitation and training: and that is alignment awareness and correction. I experienced very often that without alignment awareness, even the best planned strengthening or stretching programs are triggering health issues: that is an essential knowledge and can support any training choices. We are talking a lot about alignment but what it is exactly? How to orientate on the landscape of the human body to identify the reference points of the alignment correction? And how to do it on our own body? Learn with me the basics and get the keys for auto-corrections.
3. Discrimination and abuse are health questions for dancers
In my third webinar, I will demonstrate how acting against discrimination and abuse is protecting our health, how can they contribute to dance injuries and how they influence the successful rehabilitation and what can we do to reduce their presence in our dance communities to make them a healthier environment! But what are these phenomena? What is discrimination and why sexual harassment is a form of discrimination? What is the difference between conflict and abuse of power? What kind of community standards, code of conducts and individual coping strategies can protect us? By the end of my webinar, you will know all this.
4. Transitioning safely from one performing style to the other
In our days, companies that are dedicated to one technique and performing style are very rare, a dancer is typically needed to work in various styles and switch quickly. It is very often the case that the requirements are changing multiple times per day because companies of mixed repertoire are rehearsing together classical, neo-classical, contemporary pieces, and in the freelancer scene, one might be involved in the same time in multiple productions of choreographers of different artistic toolkit. That was not always so general in professional dance and we are still looking for the safe solutions how to adapt. On my webinar, I would like to show you some tricks to make the transition between techniques safer to reduce the risk of injuries and to show your best version in all styles.
Biography
Boglárka Simon-Hatala has dedicated her professional career to the support of professional dancers. Her first academic degree is in physiotherapy, and she has specialized in the field of injury prevention, rehabilitation and alignment correction of classical ballet dancers. She has spent the first decade of her career in Hungary, where she worked with the Hungarian National Ballet, the Hungarian Dance University and with whole spectrum of the elite professional Hungarian dance life. She has realized very soon that the locomotion system cannot be efficiently targeted by therapies without contextualizing it in the overall human health. To explore the possibilities of effective complex prevention programs for professional dancers, she acquired a master’s degree in health science pedagogy and she integrated this knowledge into her dance medicine and dance science work. In 2008, she was invited to join to the team of the Semperoper Ballet of Dresden as body awareness coach to manage some chronical injuries that the local experts could not. She spent 10 years with the company and during this period she started her international career as associated physiotherapist – among others – of The Forsythe Company, the Kremlin Ballet Festival, Sylvie Guillem’s farewell tour and Jacopo Godani’s DFDC. Her focus turned to abuse of power and toxic management in theatres and she realized that psychologically safe working environment must be included in health protection measures of performing artist. She wanted to further educate herself in mental health of performing artists, therefore she has obtained a neuroscience MSc at the King’s College London. She is in a PhD research program of the Semmelweis University Budapest, her field of research is trauma informed care.
